When it comes to kitchen sinks, there aren't too many design choices. Usually the options are stainless steel or a porcelain farmhouse style sink- if you want to go a little crazier, there's also the possibility of concrete, copper or pricey granite. But now designer Jonathan Adler offers another choice- big, bold, color. In a limited edition collaboration with Kohler, Adler has designed kitchen sinks in bright, cheery colors including Greenwich Green,  Picadilly Yellow, Palermo Blue and Annapolis Navy. The sinks are made from enameled cast iron and would look equally cool in the bathroom.

Have you ever wondered what to do with the countless drawings your little one whips up? If you're running out of wall space - and grandma and grandpa already have their fill- consider a novel way to turn a drawing into something more permanent. Wendy Tsao is the owner of Child's Own Studio, and she creates soft toys made from children's drawings, as seen in the picture. The idea is brilliant and guaranteed to delight both children and parents. The price isn't cheap- expect to pay in the range of $90-140 for a "softie.

Few foods are so closely tied to a destination as lobster is to Maine. I can’t think of too many other single ingredients that would inspire a specific journey (maybe the South for bbq?  Southeast Asia for durian? Some interesting thoughts on it here). Recently we spent several days eating our way around Maine and sampling lobster in its myriad forms. My conclusion? Anything but lobster in its purest form is overrated. Lobster rolls? There is so little meat that it can barely justify the price, and while lobster stew is tasty, the massive amount of cream just makes the dish far too heavy and rich for my taste. Your best bet is to just go for the whole boiled lobster.

One of the newest places to stay in Sydney is the QT hotel, set to open on September 17. The boutique hotel is set within the historic Gowings department store and heritage-listed State Theatre in the heart of Sydney’s central business district. The QT, a member of Design Hotels, has 200 guest rooms done up in 12 different styles, and most are equipped with an oversized bathtub and shower, and unique design pieces that reference the buildings’ past. The building itself has retained some of its original features, such as stone cladding, gargoyles,  timber floors and retail showcases.

Whether you're looking to outfit yourself- or your home- in a classic preppy with a twist look, check out C. Wonder. This new store, owned by Christopher Burch (ex husband of Tory), offers destination themed goods that would look equally at home in the Hamptons as La Jolla, all at surprisingly reasonable prices. We love the geometric tunics as well as an ikat printed maxi dress. The housewares range from pillows and sheets to ceramics. This set of ikat nesting bowls is a mere $58. If you can't make it to the Soho flagship, shop online.

It is back to school time, which means parents everywhere are scrambling to buy clothing, lunchboxes and school supplies. One of my new favorite products is reusable lunch and snack bags - a much greener (and cheaper) option than going through boxes of plastic bags every week. Skip the velcro tabbed bags (they just get bobbly after a few washes) and try these zippered ones instead by Snack Happened, available from Itzy Ritzy. The bags are $9.99 each and can be thrown in the wash, and there are enough pattern options to please even the pickiest eater.

The corner nail salon can be fine for a quick mani-pedi and a wax, but if you want to indulge – or really wallow- in a pampering experience, consider the new Cornelia Spa. Located inside the glam Surrey Hotel, the only Relais & Chateaux property in New York City, the spa oozes serenity, thanks to a soothing palette of cream and gray. Spa treatments are meant to indulge all the senses, even taste; treatments begin with a small amuse bouche. Signature treatments include The Reparative Caviar and Oxygen Quench, which wraps up with a caviar amuse bouche and prosecco and The Purist: A Dual Detoxification Treatment, using Cornelia's Honey Citrus Polish. In a hurry? Cornelia also offers indulgent treatments in 30 minutes slots.

Forget the Alamo. Even if you think you know San Antonio there’s a brand new reason to visit and it combines a boutique resort experience, some of the best shopping in Texas and inventive offerings from a homegrown celebrity chef. Eilan Hotel Resort & Spa, which opened in June, is located about 20 minutes away from downtown attractions, including The Alamo, the Riverwalk and the lovely San Antonio Museum of Art

Newly opened Mansion del Parque Bolivar is a stylish, well-situated, well-priced find in the Costa Rican capital where hotels tend to be high-rise international chains, locally-owned hotels trying to emulate them, overly “quaint” bed and breakfasts or backpacker hostels. Located in a genteel neighborhood, Mansion del Parque Bolivar rubs shoulders with well-kept homes, restaurants, cafes, embassies, government ministries and parks.
