Hipsters, rejoice. If you want to visit- and stay- in Williamsburg and don't feel like couch surfing, check out the new Wythe Hotel. Located in a former textile factory with to-die for views of Manhattan, the hotel has all the hipster cred that you would expect, including bikes to borrow, exposed brick walls and "bunk bed" rooms that are meant for rock bands. The in-house restaurant, Reynards, is run by the team behind Marlow and Sons, so expect plenty of nose to tail dining, with meat roasted in a wood-burning oven. There's also a cocktail lounge, the Ides, serving up vintage inspired drinks. And no matter what you do, don't forget your skinny jeans and sunglasses. Doubles start at $179. Wythe Hotel, 80 Wythe Ave. at N. 11th Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 11249.

grapefruitmint.jpgCall me old-fashioned, but I think that beautiful soap can make a great gift - as long as the smell isn't horrendous and the packaging is cute. I love the look (and smell) of Brooklyn-based Meow Meow Tweet Tweet soaps. They're made from organic oils and butters and whipped up in small batches. The soaps are then wrapped by hand in recycled paper that's been hand stamped. This is one of my favorites - grapefruit mint - but other unusual combos include fennel, orange and oats; cinnamon coffee and black tea honey. Shop online.

Brooklyn-based designers Hayden-Harnett are known for their
slouchy leather handbags and line of accessories. The duo behind the label, designer
Toni Hacker and her boyfriend Ben Harnett, have recently opened a boutique in
Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which sells a retro-inspired women's
wear and jewellery. We particularly like the look of the line of swingy trench coats. The line was only launched in 2005 but already has a loyal
following in the US
and Japan.  HH Design: Shop,
