If you're thinking about a Prague
getaway, then consider heading just a bit further out of town and
parking your bags at the Chateau Mcely. You won't find a stag do
or tourist shop selling bad art deco reproductions in sight. This
fully restored manor home was the former residence of the
Thurn-Taxis aristocracy, and is perfect if all
you want to do is hole up and pamper yourself. The Chateau lies
in the heart of the St.
George
Forest, and is next
to the 12,000 acre
Jabkenice
Game Park-
and yet only one hour away from
Prague. Guests can
spend their days...

Sejto

Sejto, which sells hand-blocked
textiles, is the kind of shop you walk into and want to buy
everything in sight. Some of our favourite products are classic
hemstitched linen napkins and placemats, and delicate dragonfly
print table runners in that have an Anthropologie/Liberty look.
Shirts, skirts, pillows, and bed linens are all available, and
materials used are mostly cotton and linen. Many of the designs
are drawn from antique Bohemian designs.
Inexpensive.

After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, Prague was dubbed the
“Paris of Eastern Europe” or “the new Paris”.

Romantics flocked there with visions of Prague being just like
Paris in the 30s, when writers like Hemingway and Henry Miller
held writers groups and could live cheaply””and eat well, and
drink even better.

These days, Prague isn't as cheap as it used to be so
fulfilling your artistic Bohemian fantasies will cost you more,
but its still one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with its
tangle of cobble stoned streets and dozens of spires. Unlike
Paris, it's a city of a manageable size”” much like Boston or
Edinburgh””so even if you only have a few days to spend in the
city, you won't feel overwhelmed. And like Edinburgh, the city is
dominated by the view of the spectacular castle up on a hill.

Prague is coming up to an international level,...

The latest hotel trend is to have an expert for every aspect
of a stay, including a pillow concierge, a bath butler, a tea
sommelier and even a bow-wow butler to cater to canine needs.

The best and most practical one we've come across is
the music concierge at The Aria hotel in Prague. Most visitors
come to Prague for the culture, especially the music. There are a
million opportunities to attend a concert in the city. Every
church and hall seems to host a concert for a very reasonable
price, but for something more formal purchase tickets for the
Opera House or try to time your visit to a festival, such as the
Verdi Festival in August, or the annual Prague Jazz Festival in
October. For music fans, there's no better place to stay than the
Aria.

Each floor of this boutique hotel is dedicated...

Tucked away in the back
streets of Old Town, La Scene is a new French restaurant in
Prague. There's also a lounge area, ideal for pre-dinner or after
shopping drinks. Menu highlights include foie gras terrine with
prunes and armagnac and a lightly toasted brioche; red mullet
soufflé with baby spinach and a tapenade sauce, or warm chocolate
cake topped with a white chocolate sauce. Yum.
