For those who missed the opportunity to
indulge in February's $25,000 per head dinner extravaganza
in Bangkok,
here's another chance. The $30,000 a head Dinner of the
Chefs will take place 17 September at Versailles. Only 60 guests will be able to sample a
lavish, 15 course meal prepared by 16 Michelin starred chefs,
including Gary Rhodes, Alain Passard and Charlie Trotter. The
evening will kick off with cocktails on Marie-Antoinette's
private estate, and the gardens will be lit by thousands of
candles. There will also be fireworks and a Chopin concert. Men
will go home with a flask of vintage Hennessy while women
will be given Marie-Antoinette's own perfume. Proceeds will go to
a children's charity.
If we had a penny for
everytime someone asked for a hotel recommendation in
Paris”¦ Welll, we
could have bought our own hotel there. The next place we'll be
directing people to is the Hotel le
Placide, located in the heart of St-Germain. The hotel is
located in a former 19th century townhouse, and has
just 11 bedrooms. The look is contemporary and funky; Cole & Son
wallpaper is used in the bedrooms, and the lounge has a 70s era
woodpanelling which matches the brown cube chairs. Each
floor has a different colour theme, ranging from taupe to black
and white and violet. One word of warning though if you are
planning a romantic weekend here:. all bathrooms are divided from
the rest of the room by a velvet curtain. Eek! Rates start at 350 euros. Hotel le

You can drink
your champagne in Saint-Tropez, or you can spray it on
your friends at Nikki Beach, one of the
quintessential see-and-be-seen beach clubs in the French
Riviera. If you've had too much champagne the night before,
then maybe you can just nap on the beaches of the
Bay of
Pampelonne. That is,
after you wash down your lunch with a few bottles of rosé at
Club 55,
the chicest beach restaurant in the Mediterranean.
Ahhh, St Tropez. This is where God Created Woman (well, that
ideal of women, Brigitte Bardot) and now is where the European jet set parties
the summer away. Everyone from Bono to P. Diddy and Pam Anderson has partied
there, and this is where Mick Jagger married Bianca. If you aren't staying on a
billionaire's yacht moored in the harbour, the best place to call home is the
Byblos St Tropez. The hotel is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary and to
celebrate it in style, Byblos St Tropez will be hosting a series of events,
including a pool side concert, and will also unveil a major refurbishment. Look
out for a new in-house lothario as well- Largo Winch. This
comic book character, a "millionaire in blue jeans,” is the
creation of Jean Van Hamme. In
celebration of the hotel's anniversary, Van Hamme has created a new series that

It's easy to make believe you own a
particularly attractive and well-positioned Nice apartment when
you stay at the Palais de la Mediterranee. Each of the 188
rooms has outdoor space perfect for an evening aperitif or
breakfast, ranging from somewhat modest balconies to the immense
terraces that come in one of the 12 suites (the largest, Suite
927, has a 538-square-foot terrace). Either
way, just opening the doors to your own private glimpse of the
Baie des Anges (book one of the 92 rooms with a sea view)
provides a sense of the bien-être for which Provence ”“
though not necessarily the small but bustling city of Nice ”“ is
so well known.

It must have been
someone else. It couldn't have been me doing
“Crazy Signs” on that Club Med dance floor. After a leisurely
five-course meal at Le Serrac, La Plagne 2100's
specialty restaurant, I was shamelessly “Stayin' Alive” with my
new international friends. Several bottles of Moet before a main
course, several bottles of a silky St. Emilion through the cheese
course, and several shots of genepie, the local
chartreuse liqueur, may have had something to do with my wild
dancing.
Last month,
iTravel iShop headed to Paris
for a girls' weekend. Our mission? To shop,
shop, shop and eat well. Why Paris? It's one of those
cities, like New York
or Tokyo, that you never get sick
of visiting, no matter how many times you have been there. We
accomplished both missions, and found plenty of interesting
shops, cafes and restaurants that we fell in love with. Although
most of them aren't new, they were new to us, as they were
suggestions from in-the-know savvy locals. While it's hard not to
have a good time in Paris, these shops and
restaurants made the difference between having a good girls'
weekend in Paris, and having a great one.
When it comes to planning a stay in Nice,
there's usually one hotel on people's minds: the glamorous Art
Deco Palais de la Mediterranee. The hotel has just
unveiled its newest and largest suite, Suite 927, also known as
“Sous le Cieux les Plus Doux” meaning “Under the Softest
Heavens.” The name comes from the tryptique painting which graces
the living room. Suite 927
is a spacious 1,292 square feet,
with a 538-square-foot terrace. The one-bedroom suite
features a living room with sofas able to accommodate up to 14
people and a bathroom, with panoramic views of Nice and the
Baie des Anges. The suite also has two plasma screen
televisions, large wardrobes, and Annick Goutal body
products. Rates range from €1400 to €2000 per night. For

Paris is one of the world's best shopping destinations for cutting edge fashion as well as tiny, one-of-a-kind stores. Where else can you find an entire shop devoted to selling 36 varieties of honey, or tiny, jewel-like chocolates?
