A b&b is one of those things
that's better in theory than in practice. Sure, I like the idea
of a cosy little place to stay that doesn't cost the earth but
too often the reality is a drafty, pokey place with an abundance
of doilies, scratchy bedspreads and dusty muesli. But the concept
of a b&b is being reinvented by people like Gerald and Sylvia
Pritchard, who have revamped an 1838 Grade II listed building in
Wales. The look of The New White Lion is modern
and funky, as they used bold wallpapers, Italian furniture and
Farrow & Ball paint throughout the property. There are just
six rooms and the Pritchards also put on a four course dinner for
just £21- and not a doily in sight. Rates start at £80.
