The newly opened Allegria Hotel in Long Beach on Long Island provides a much needed alternative. Just 40 minutes from Manhattan, the Allegria has a crisp but sleek beachy look, with lots of mirrors, glass and pale limestone. It's located right on the beach so guests can work on their tans or stroll the boardwalk. For pampering, a spa will open later this summer.
