The corner nail salon can be fine for a quick mani-pedi and a wax, but if you want to indulge – or really wallow- in a pampering experience, consider the new Cornelia Spa. Located inside the glam Surrey Hotel, the only Relais & Chateaux property in New York City, the spa oozes serenity, thanks to a soothing palette of cream and gray. Spa treatments are meant to indulge all the senses, even taste; treatments begin with a small amuse bouche. Signature treatments include The Reparative Caviar and Oxygen Quench, which wraps up with a caviar amuse bouche and prosecco and The Purist: A Dual Detoxification Treatment, using Cornelia's Honey Citrus Polish. In a hurry? Cornelia also offers indulgent treatments in 30 minutes slots. The Cornelia Spa at...

jackrogers.bmpJack Rogers Navajo sandals. Check. LL Bean tote bag. Check. J. Crew bikini. Check. These three items are the classic ingredients for a preppy summer look.

Jack Rogers sandals are famed for being as stylish (in an understated way) as they are comfortable, and it has just become easier to buy them in New York City. Originally founded in Palm Beach in 1961, Jack Rogers has just opened its New York flagship. The Navajo, pictured, retails for $98 but there are also espadrilles and wedges for sale, along with plenty of closed toe shoes for New York's non beachy weather days - which is about half the year.  Jack Rogers, 1198 Madison Ave between 87 and 88 Street. New York, NY 10128. Phone: (212) 259-0588.

gansevoortparkave.bmpWe're big fans of the Gansevoort hotel group (check out our review of the Turks and Caicos location here), so we're thrilled that a second Gansevoort has opened in Manhattan. Located on Park Avenue South, which has just been deemed cool by The New York Times, this location has the sleek, streamlined design that is the hallmark of the boutique chain. The 249 guest rooms are on average 462 square feet, which is bigger than the typical NYC apartment.

One of the biggest draws is the tri-level rooftop with an indoor/outdoor pool. As with all Gansevoort properties, guests can unwind (or work up a sweat)...

NARS_Boutique.jpgMakeup superstar Francois Nars has just opened his first New York flagship in the West Village. The sleek space is done up in the brand's signature black and white colors, with a splash of Jungle Red. Customers will find the full NARScosmetics product line - displayed in a custom-designed unit - and exclusive products, including a  Bento Box and 413 Bleecker Pure Matte Lipstick. The boutique also carries items accumulated by François Nars throughout his travels and those that have served as inspiration in his product development (such as Exhibit A, by Guy Bourdin; or Belle de Jour, a film starring Catherine Deneuve). See it for yourself at 413 Bleecker Street.

aceexterior.jpgMy room at the Ace Hotel has an opinion. The mirror reminds you that “Love is meant to make us glad.” The record player (yes, record player) demands “Rock out” and the bedding says “Thanks for sleeping with me.” In fact, the entire hotel has a proud and loud POV that proclaims ‘I’m different and so are you so come on in!”

And they do. The lobby is perpetually packed with in and out of town  trend setters and early adopters tapping away on laptops (and, increasingly, iPads) and sipping brews from the Stumptown Coffee shop off the lobby. Hotel guest and neighborhood drop-ins mill about and look almost as cool as the lumberjack hipster staffers in their intentionally off-kilter plaids and school-marmy glasses.

The hotel offers two noteworthy restaurants including...

souk2.jpgWhen groups of women come to New York for a girls' weekend, there are usually two things on their mind- shopping and cocktails. But if you don't know where to go, and are keen to snap up some bargains, book a stay at the Marrakech Hotel on the Upper West Side for the wisdom of the Souk Seeker.

The Souk Seeker is a team of personal bargain hunters who shell out tips, samples sales, maps and more for guests of the Marrakech Hotel. They also provide recommendations for Moroccan retailers where guests can hunt for furnishings like those seen at the Moroccan-themed hotel.

Launching just in time for the Sex and the City 2 movie, bargain hunters also receive a complimentary cocktail at the hotel’s Kazbar lounge when showing their movie stub.

Spring rates start at $139.

susupaisley.jpgChildren's clothes are inherently cute because they are so small, but little girls' clothing just seems, well, so much cuter. It's hard to get excited about boy's cargos and tshirts when the girls' section is selling adorable sundresses, tunics and stripey leggings. Well, for all the fashion conscious moms of little boys, you're in luck. New York-based Baby Susu sells stylish clothing for boys up until age 4. You can find Liberty print button down shirts, hip tuxedo style tops and jaunty blazers. Available to purchase online (there's a great sale happening now) or at various locations in NYC. You can also buy online here at Trifle, which sells lots of stylish clothes for babies and children.

eloise.JPGSome people love The Plaza because it's home to the fountain where F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda once romped. Others love it for its old school glamour and gilt. But for many people, The Plaza will always be the place associated with Eloise. In honor of the hotel’s most famous fictional guest, the Plaza recently opened a 2,100 square foot Eloise shop. The pink boutique sells everything Eloise inspired- Eloise books, Eloise-inspired bathrobes and bath towels, and Eloise dolls. But it’s also more fun that just a regular store.

In the Fashion Room girls can try on costumes and model them on a podium, or watch their favorite Eloise movie clips in the Library Room, or even ask the Concierge for some tips. Fans can also visit the Tea Room for birthday parties and other celebrations, and there is also a Beauty...

divinechair.jpgI love the look of antique chairs re-upholstered in something new and funky. Paul Smith is a master at doing this with his signature stripes and Union Jack print, but if you’re looking for something a little more affordable, check out the Divine Chair Company. Owner Kitty McBride was inspired to launch the company when she was in need of furniture but couldn’t find anything she liked, so bought some old chairs and fixed ‘em up herself. The result is some seriously cool and quirky pieces. You can buy Divine Chairs on her website and on Sundays at the GreenFlea Market at 77th Street and Columbus Avenue in New York. Prices start at $400. For more information call (646) 884-2400.
