Run To the Welsh Hills

A b&b is one of those things that's better in theory than in practice. Sure, I like the idea of a cosy little place to stay that doesn't cost the earth but too often the reality is a drafty, pokey place with an abundance of doilies, scratchy bedspreads and dusty muesli. But the concept of a b&b is being reinvented by people like Gerald and Sylvia Pritchard, who have revamped an 1838 Grade II listed building in Wales. The look of The New White Lion is modern and funky, as they used bold wallpapers, Italian furniture and Farrow & Ball paint throughout the property. There are just six rooms and the Pritchards also put on a four course dinner for just £21- and not a doily in sight. Rates start at £80.  The New White Lion, 3 Stone Street, Llandovery,Carmarthenshire, Phone: 01550 720685.
