I can’t say I’m always a huge fan of shopping malls- but they are a necessary evil, and sometimes hugely convenient. And the best ones- like the Beverly Center in LA, the Shops at Time Warner, Copley Place, Bal Harbour- actually have a selection of shops you want to go to, instead of the usual grim suspects like Claire’s and a Dress Barn. That’s why this article, "Against Mall Odds" in the Boston Globe caught my eye. It was all about the revamped food selection at the Natick Collection (an upscale shopping center outside of Boston) and the single best line in it was this- “After spending gobs at Kate Spade and Burberry, there is no reason a shopper should be stuck eating greasy pizza and pretzel dogs.” Yes! Exactly. The article went on to detail how the mall features real restaurants, such as Sel de la Terre (pictured), which is the sister restaurant to Boston’s renowned L’Espalier, as well as Chestnut Hill’s The Metropolitan Club and Finale, the all dessert cafe. Now let’s hope that more malls follow suit and ditch Auntie Annie’s pretzel hut for something a bit more palatable.
